Your Relationship with Money and Your Family

"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal; but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
Matthew 6:19-21, NRSV

"A funny thing happened to me on the way to church last fall. I discovered that Christian Stewardship is much more than giving my money, but it is all about relationships, with God, with myself, and other the other members of my church community. Giving joyously become much more important, than the amount that I had left in my wallet"

There are several issues that need to be consider in how an individual or family unit approach their discernment to giving to your parish community. (please go to "From the Diocese of Atlanta Workshop Presentation on the "Reasons for Giving")

Outlook on Giving to the Church:
  1. Treat it as another expense in the family budget
  2. Treat it as another priority that you have to juggle in you life.
  3. Treat it as joyful giving as an important part of your relationship with God and your parish community.

All of the above is part of our commitment to the church as the "Strive to Tithe".  Each of the above are the steps each of us will take in our growing relationship with God. It is important that we do not get stuck in #1 or #2.
